From March 20th to April 13rd, for the first time, thanks to the passionate research work of the two curators Michela Dezzani and Bice Dantona, all 66 titles of the series conceived and directed by Bruno Munari for Einaudi from 1972 to 1978 will be exhibited at Eldodo in their original editions, along with original materials, drawings and designs related to the books in the series and a documentary apparatus from the Einaudi Historical Archives.
The book series project
The very title of the exhibition comes from this archival documentation: the abbreviation TTB, taken from Munari’s own letters to the publisher, was in fact the designer’s way of abbreviating the name of the series.
This is a corpus of materials that finally makes it possible to reconstruct in a coherent and detailed manner the design process and the events of a publishing experience that was short-lived and little publicized, but of enormous density (as many as 66 titles, almost 50 of them in the first 3 years alone) and of undisputed value for the renewal of children’s publishing in Italy, as evidenced by the heated debate in the cultural world that arose, even at the time of the publication of the first titles, among the likes of Calvino, Ginzburg, Manganelli and Sciascia.
All scheduled events
Munari TTB will also be the occasion for a series of side events that will provide an even more in-depth account of the Tantibambini series and the figure of Bruno Munari:
- adult meetings with talks by expert connoisseurs of Munari’s work, such as Mario Piazza, Pietro Corraini, Andrea Kerbaker, Aldo Tanchis, Alberto Cerchi, Monica Fumagalli, Beba Restelli, and Carlo Stanga;
- Bruno Munari® method workshops for children and adults and trainings for adults and teachers; guided tours with curators; readings for children; activities for schools.
There will be two openings: one for adults (March 20 h. 6:30 p.m.) and one for children and families (March 22 h. 3:00 p.m.), to allow everyone to make the most of the exhibition and participate in the proposed activities, inspired by the joyful creativity of the artist and designer who conceived (also) the Tantibambini necklace.
Insights
The material on display in the exhibition will be supported by adigital application, accessible to visitors either at on-site locations or on their own device via QR-code, for further exploration and personalized enjoyment of the content.
The exhibition during Milan Design Week 2025
During Milan Design Week (April 7-13), the exhibition will be enriched with some special contents between workshops and training: it will be an opportunity for an in-depth look at Bruno Munari’s design method applied to children’s books and to remember and experience the artist and designer’s relationship with paper, his favorite material.
