Modern Architecture A-Z

With more than 270 entries, this encyclopedia of architecture provides an indispensable overview of the leading creators of modern space. From the 19th to the 21st century, innovative architects are reviewed, whose portraits and brief biographies it provides, along with descriptions of major works. Like a world architectural tour, you will travel from Manhattan skyscrapers to a Japanese concert hall, from Gaudí’s Palau Güell in Barcelona to Lina Bo Bardi’s sports and recreation center on the site of an old factory in São Paulo. You will admire Gio Ponti’s colorful geometries, Zaha Hadid’s undulating futurism, SANAA’s bright interiors, and Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s peculiar blend of Scottish tradition and elegant japonisme.
The entries, arranged alphabetically, also include groups, movements and styles, such as International Style, Bauhaus and De Stijl, to position major architects within broader building trends in time and space.
With illustrations that include some of the most beautiful architectural photographs of the modern era, this book offers a comprehensive reference tool for professionals, students and enthusiasts.
